Michaela joined the Global Public Health program at Dominican in August 2019 as an Assistant Professor. She received a BA in Sociology/Anthropology with a minor in Biochemistry from Middlebury College in Vermont, a MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology from Boston University School of Public Health, and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, she is working on several research projects with Marin County HHS designed to predict opioid overdoses and understand cadmium exposure and breast cancer.

Michaela has worked on research projects at University of California, Berkeley, at University of California, San Francisco, and at Boston Medical Center in the Pediatrics Department. At Dominican, she has taught Senior Capstone Research Experience in the Public Health and Health Science, Health Research Methods, Contemporary Health Issues, and Health Education and Health Promotion, and the Foundations of Public Health.

Research Interests

Feasibility of using saliva-based Cd levels as a predictor in breast density measures in Marin County. (Partnership with Marin County HHS)

Predicting opioid overdoses based on co-prescribing practices with other controlled substances. (Partnership with RxSafe Marin.)
