A coach? But I haven’t made the basketball team yet.

Good luck and go Penguins! In the meantime, you and your peers can each work with an Integrative Coach. An Integrative Coach will ensure that you are supported in achieving personal and academic success. Your coach will stick with you until you graduate and facilitate your connections with peer and career mentors.

How do they help me with academic and life skills?

An Integrative Coach will reach out to you by phone before you even step foot on campus, and you’ll meet regularly during the school year to check in on how things are going in the classroom and in your life. Together, you’ll develop an education plan and then a career plan. Plus, you’ll take two classes taught by your coach. In your first year, Mastering College introduces you to college success skills plus tips and tricks for minimizing stress and maintaining wellness. In your junior year, Life Skills 101 will prepare you for a career, relationships, and healthy living after college.

And these people are…?

Integrative Coaches are Dominican faculty and staff.

You said something about peer and career mentors. Who are they?

Peer Mentors are trained sophomore, junior, and senior Dominican students who support you in making connections on campus and in the community…like introducing you to Latinos Unidos or posting your campaign fliers for sophomore class senator. Your Peer Mentor will also assist you in crafting your digital portfolio.

Career Mentors are local professionals and alumni who provide you with guidance on your professional pathway. They may offer feedback on your resume, help you work out the kinks in a mock interview, or talk through anxieties you have about grad school.

That’s quite a network! How do I know it will work for me?

Sold. How do I find my network?

You will meet your Peer Mentor in your first year. You can also enroll in Mastering College in your first year and voila, your teacher will be your integrative coach! Go get ‘em, penguin.
