Dominican Celebrates Fall 2025 Commencement, December 13

Dominican University of California will celebrate its fall 2025 undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies on Saturday, December 13, in Angelico Concert Hall. The undergraduate commencement ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Doors open to guests at 9 a.m. The graduate commencement ceremony begins at 1 p.m. in Angelico Concert Hall. Doors open to guests at noon.

Omar Carrera, chief executive officer of Canal Alliance, will deliver the undergraduate commencement address. Andrew F. Mathieson, local philanthropist and founder and managing member of Fairview Capital Investment Management, will deliver the graduate commencement address.

Psychology major Madelyn Ayers will deliver the undergraduate student address. Olivia Chan will deliver the graduate student address. Olivia is receiving her master’s degree in physician assistant studies.

Omar Carrera has served as CEO of Canal Alliance since October 2016. A champion for immigrants who are challenged by a lack of resources and an unfamiliar environment, Canal Alliance offers social services, immigration legal services, and education and career programs to help Latino immigrants and their families overcome barriers and achieve success. Dominican has been honored to partner with Canal Alliance on many community projects through the university’s Center for Community Engagement and Partnerships.

Carrera was born and raised in Ecuador. He earned a CPA and business management degree and worked for Mitsubishi as a senior consultant before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2002. Carrera is a graduate of San Francisco State University's nonprofit organization management program and has received certifications from the executive education programs at Harvard and Stanford universities.

Prior to starting Fairview, Mathieson was a principal at Ashfield & Co, Inc. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1978 and his MBA from Stanford University in 1984. Mathieson works in an advisory capacity for the Santa Lucia Conservancy. 

Mathieson served on the boards of Dominican University of California, Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Branson School, and the Bay Area Discovery Museum. He has also been active in the community as a youth sports coach (soccer and softball), a mentor, and a fundraiser for many Marin-based causes and nonprofits.
