The 19th season of the Guest Concert Series at Dominican University of California continued on November 17 with a performance by 2LOW in Angelico Concert Hall.

2LOW --a new and unusual low-string duo of San Francisco Symphony musicians Assistant Principal cellist Amos Yang and bassist Charles Chandler -- are graduates of the Juilliard School. With their virtuosity and in-depth artistry, they will explore the unknown and exciting repertoire of low string duos. The program included Jean Barrière Duo Sonata No. 10 in G major; J S Bach Viola da Gamba Sonata Nr.2 in D Major, BWV1028; Andrés Martin Synchronicity (2018) for Violoncello and Double Bass (commissioned by Richard Duke for 2LOW); Pierre Louis Hus-Desforges Grande Sonata for Cello and Double Bass, Op.3, No.3; and Rossini Duetto for Cello and Double Bass in D Major.

The Sunday concerts, sponsored by Dominican’s Department of Music, Dance and Performing Arts, start at 3 p.m. Free parking is available in the nearby Conlan Center lot off Grand Avenue in San Rafael.

The Telegraph Quartet opened the 2019-20 Guest Concert Series on September 29 and, on March 1, 2020, GCS welcomes a piano recital by Alon Goldstein, featuring selections from Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Janacek.

Alon Goldstein is admired for his musical intelligence, sensitive artistry and dynamic personality. He made his orchestral debut at the age of 18 with the Israel Philharmonic under the baton of Zubin Mehta and returned a few seasons ago with Maestro Herbert Blomstedt. In recent seasons, Mr. Goldstein has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; Philadelphia Orchestra; the San Francisco, Baltimore, St. Louis, Houston, Vancouver, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and North Carolina symphonies; and orchestras on tour in Paris, Russia, Romania and Bulgaria.

On April 19, 2020, Tilden Trio returns to Dominican. The Marin County trio will play Mozart Piano Trio in C Major, K.549; Schumann Sonata for Violin and Piano No.2 in D Minor, Op.121; and Ravel Piano Trio in A Minor. The Tilden Trio are Sarn Oliver, Violin; Peter Wyrick, Cello; and June Choi Oh, Piano.

“(The) performance by the Tilden Trio was a mesmerizing display of great music-making. With a warm tone that was inviting even in the most challenging music, the Tilden Trio proved the theory that chamber music at its best is a musical conversation between close friends,” the Honolulu Music Examiner opines.

Northern California’s premier ensemble, the trio was founded in 2004 by Sarn (First Violinist, San Francisco Symphony), Peter (Associate Principal, San Francisco Symphony) and June (Dept. Chair, Dominican University of California), who were Juilliard schoolmates and have collaborated for decades in various ensemble settings, starting in their pre-college days.
