The Music, BA degree is designed for students who plan careers in music and music-related fields, as well as those who are interested in double majoring with other disciplines.

The program offers applied instructions (private lessons) in performance and composition, with courses designed to give students an understanding and appreciation of the intellectual, social, and spiritual values of music. The study of music theory, history, and literature, and participation in performing ensembles will further enhance your comprehensive music education.

The Music minor is designed to give students a deeper understanding and appreciation of music. Through the study of performance, theory, music literature, and participation in performing ensembles, students will strengthen a lifelong passion for music. Learn more about our Minor Requirements on our course catalog.

Career Paths

Graduates of our program become members of professional orchestras and ensembles, professors, teachers and music community leaders. They also thrive in business, medicine and arts management, as we educate our students to be versatile and ready for our evolving world and society.

Concentration in Performance is for students who are interested in pursuing performance and/or considering going on to graduate studies in music. This program will carry a larger unit load for applied music courses (private instruction), along with supportive studies in music.

Additional Admissions and Aid Information

Auditions can be fulfilled by live auditions or sending a CD, YouTube link or music file. We require two contrasting pieces or movements of music, and excerpts are accepted.

Substantial music scholarships are available to music majors and double majors, which are awarded on the basis of the audition. Ensemble scholarships are also available to music minors. Please contact the Music, Dance and Performing Arts department for more information.

Admissions and Aid

A degree from a private university like Dominican University of California is more accessible than you might think. For most students there is no application fee and we don't ask for test scores. We're also proud to say that more than 99 percent of our first-year incoming students receive financial aid, which makes paying for school within reach.
