An audition is required if you did not participate in the chorale this past season. Participants are expected to match pitch readily, have some music reading skill and choral singing experience. There is a registration fee of $25, and music will be available for purchase prior to rehearsal.
About the Conductor and Repertoire
The Chorale is conducted by Francisco Ortiz, Adjunct Professor of Music in the Department of Music and Performing Arts and a Dominican alumnus. Francisco Ortiz earned a B.A. in Music from Dominican University in 2006, where he studied percussion with Ken Crawford and choral/orchestral conducting & voice with Dr. Craig Singleton. In 2008, he received his Master of Music in Music Education degree from Holy Names University where he studied conducting with Judit Hartyányi, Professor at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. In addition to his work with the Dominican Chorale, he also serves as music director at St. Dominic’s Church in Benicia. He chooses each semester’s repertoire to include works by classical masters, as well as more contemporary composers that can speak to issues of our times.
