Digital Portfolio

Digital portfolios are an important part of your Dominican Experience. Portfolios are a place for personal reflection, integration of your knowledge, and experience —  both in and out of the classroom.

Tell Your Story

At Dominican, digital portfolios help you tell your story. Digital portfolios are personal websites that allow you to electronically collect your work over time, reflect upon your personal and academic growth, and then share selected items with others, like professors, advisors, and potential employers.

Portfolios include student reflections on learning (curricular and co-curricular), milestone assignments, and education and career plans. Portfolios are flexible, customizable, transferable, and portable.

You probably already have Snapchat, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts, but a digital portfolio offers something more. It is your opportunity to share your personal, academic, and professional growth. Creating one is easy and we’re here to help.

Working with my peer mentor was so helpful in understanding the purpose of my digital portfolio. I was inspired by her highlighted global experience and overall design.” — Sabrina Robinson, Biology

Digital Portfolios are free if using a Google or Weebly site — and, yes, you can take it with you when you graduate.

If you are a current student needing assistance creating your digital portfolio, please see the Current Students page.

If you are a faculty or staff member, please see the Digital Portfolio Resources website.

When you create a digital portfolio, you can gain a competitive edge in your job search or pursuit of an advanced degree by showcasing both your curricular and co-curricular achievements. Better still, digital portfolios provide a space for critical self-reflection and synthesis — which means you can better understand what you learned and the journey you took to get there.

Throughout your time at Dominican, you will develop a digital portfolio and receive regular feedback because we believe all students deserve a supported experience that will build a strong foundation for life after college.

Digital portfolios deepen learning and improve outcomes for students of all backgrounds.

  • 70 percent of college students nationwide agree digital portfolios help them “make connections between ideas” (source).
  • More than half of our nations’ colleges and universities help students create digital portfolios, which means our graduates need them to be competitive (source).
  • Digital portfolios support our students in achieving Dominican’s institutional learning outcomes, including critical thinking, research, and communication skills; resilience; and a habit of mind for lifelong learning.
  • Four out of five employers say a digital portfolio would be useful to them in ensuring that job applicants have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their company or organization (source).
