Recreational Sports

The Recreational Sports department organizes structured leagues, tournaments and contests designed to meet the Dominican community’s recreational needs. Students, faculty and staff may participate in Rec Sports activities as regularly as their interest and time allow.

Through participation in recreational sports, individuals reduce their stress levels, maintain fitness, connect with people, and perhaps most importantly, have fun. The program emphasizes and acknowledges values such as sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork.

Recreational Sports Mission Statement

Recreational Sports provides a fun and engaging environment for the Dominican community’s participation in intramural sports and fitness. Leadership, teamwork and integrity form the foundation of our program.

Staff and Independent Contractors

Student employment in recreational sports helps students earn money to help pay for educational expenses, teaches them about the workplace in a safe environment, and allows them to work in a field they may be interested in as a future career.

The department also works with a variety of independent contractors to offer fitness classes in yoga, Zumba, kickboxing and weight training — to name just a few. Contractors are vetted professionals in their fields who undergo extensive background checks and meet the qualifications required for certified instructors.

Partners

Recreational Sports partners with many local businesses and institutions to help grow the program, including 101 Surf Sports, GBC Fitness, Microsoft, Sports Basement, Sailing Education Adventures, Sonoma State University, and Urban Soccer.
