Institute for Leadership Studies (ILS)
As a center for leadership training and development, our mission is to guide students, faculty, staff and community members to become better leaders by advancing the study, teaching, and practice of effective, ethical leadership.
Creating Leaders at all Levels
Through the study, teaching, and practice of effective ethical leadership, the Institute for Leadership Studies (ILS) develops people to become better leaders.
Assisting business, student and community leaders, ILS programs apply rigor to value-added research, theory building, and real-life business practice. ILS facilitates positive individual, organizational, and social change, and promotes socially responsible leadership and civic engagement.
ILS is a center of excellence in Dominican’s Barowsky School of Business. In partnership with all of the University’s academic schools, ILS is the center of leadership development on the Dominican campus. ILS sponsors a variety of programs and initiatives, including leadership education and research, executive education and consulting, public forums, and community service projects.
Institute for Leadership Studies Guiding Principles
Leadership education and training experiences at Dominican have an underlying theme: promoting the leader's responsibility for shaping a constructive organizational culture.
Our Leadership Philosophy
A constructive organizational culture — a culture where colleagues trust one another, maintain ethical values and hold one another accountable for achieving shared organizational goals — tends to emerge from an organizational environment that establishes clear priorities and focuses on results.
As participants in leadership education at Dominican, you will explore relationships between leaders, teams, and individuals. You will learn that trust, conflict, clarity, accountability and achieving results are inter-related and that organizations that empower their employees to demonstrate leadership are the successful and thriving ones.
Our ultimate goal is to facilitate positive individual, organizational and societal change, engaged citizenship, and socially responsible leadership." — Dr. Denise M. Lucy, Executive Director and Professor
