Free 'Healthy Seniors' program resumes Feb. 21

The Department of Occupational Therapy at Dominican University of California is once again accepting seniors age 60 & over into its 2012 Healthy Seniors program.

The free eight-week health and wellness program begins February 21 and will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 1-3 p.m. through April 17 in the OT Department at Meadowlands Hall on the Dominican campus, as well as The Redwoods Retirement Community in Mill Valley.

The program is designed to help seniors maintain their health, live better with chronic conditions and assist in recovery from recent injuries or illnesses.

Under the supervision of faculty members Alison Virzi, MS, OTR/L, and Kitsum Li, OTD, OTR/L, from Dominican’s OT Department, senior citizens will learn to improve their range of motion, flexibility and endurance, recover from cumulative trauma and cope with chronic physical conditions. Other issues and topics that will be individualized are learning fall prevention and home safety techniques, better nutrition, exercise wellness habits and safe driving and community mobility.
