Pulitzer Prize-winner Meacham speaks at Dominican

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham, executive Editor of Random House and former editor of Newsweek, was guest speaker on November 30 in the final edition of the 2012 Institute for Leadership Studies’ Fall Lecture Series at Dominican University of California.

The series is a cooperative effort between Dominican’s ILS and independent book store Book Passage. Each year, the Leadership Lecture Series features some of the country's leading figures from the world of business, politics, entertainment, academia, and literature.

This fall series’ lineup featured “Big History” senior lecturer Dr. Fred Spier, The Satanic Verses author Salman Rushie, and Food Network celebrity chef Ina Garten.

All lectures are open to the public. Lectures begin at 7 p.m. in Angelico Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Meacham, who won a Pulitzer Prize for biography in 2009 for American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, has written three New York Times bestsellers. His latest biographical book Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power provides an intimate portrait of the third president of the United States and principle author of the Declaration of Independence.

Elected to the Society of American Historians in 2009, Meacham has written for The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, Slate and The Los Angeles Times Book Review. He is former co-anchor of the public-affairs broadcast “Need to Know on PBS.”
