Zika Virus outbreak expert speaks at science seminar

Dr. Rebecca Christofferson, Assistant Professor at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, was guest speaker at “A Scientist's Response to the Zika Virus Outbreak” in Guzman Lecture Hall on October 12.

The seminar was presented by the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics as part of the Democracy and Equity Initiative at Dominican this academic year.

Dr. Christofferson MApSt (LSU 2005), Ph.D (LSU 2011) is assistant professor in pathobiological sciences, with the Vector-borne Disease Laboratory at LSU. She is a leading expert on the Zika virus, which recently emerged in the Western Hemisphere.

All members of the Dominican campus community were invited to attend the seminar, which will focus on mosquito-borne viruses and Dr. Christofferson's role in the response to the Zika outbreak in South America, particularly Brazil.
