Dominican adds townhome-style apartments close to campus, downtown

Beginning this fall semester, Dominican University expands its housing options for both undergraduate and graduate students with a newly built residential community of furnished townhomes located within easy walking distance of both campus and downtown San Rafael.

When completed this summer, Dominican Townhomes will contain 15, three-bedroom units and parking for 30 cars. Each fully furnished unit will include three bedrooms (two doubles and one single), three bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room.  Landscaped courtyards will provide gathering spaces for all residents.

Located on the corner of Mission and Irwin streets, the townhomes will make it easy for students choosing to live off campus to continue to participate in on-campus events and activities. Students also will be close to the many dining, shopping, and entertainment options in San Rafael.

The nearby San Rafael Transit Center provides public transportation links to San Francisco, Sonoma, West Marin, the Golden Gate Ferry, and both San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport. Dominican Townhomes also will be located close to the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) station.

The new student housing rooms will be a part of this spring’s housing lottery for returning students. The units will house up to 75 students, including two RAs.

Dominican, which has signed a five-year lease for Dominican Townhomes, will provide furniture, appliances, and laundry facilities. The University also will provide maintenance, landscaping, and security for the complex.

The townhomes are available to juniors and seniors, with a priority given to students who are active participants in campus life. This includes student leaders, student mentors, club leaders, honors college students, and student ambassadors.

The townhomes also will provide housing for graduate students at a time when the University is expanding its graduate programming in the sciences, health sciences, humanities, and business.
