Dominican students honored at Convocation 2013

Celebrating its academic excellence, Dominican University of California recognized more than 200 outstanding scholars on October 4 at Convocation 2013.

Convocation, held in Angelico Concert Hall, honored students for their academic achievements.  Led by Dominican President Mary B. Marcy and Provost Steven Weisler, the symbolic ceremony extended special recognition to Dominican sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have been named to the Dean’s List in consecutive semesters.

Dominican honored outstanding freshmen who have been awarded the highest academic achievement, Trustee Scholar. In addition, President Marcy accepted the Pacific West Conference Academic Achievement Award. This is the fourth consecutive year the University has won or shared the PacWest’s top academic prize.

Jasmine Martinez, an honors student who graduated in May after serving as a student leader for the Service-Learning program, was keynote speaker at Convocation. The celebration began with Dominican’s cappella singers, accompanied on the piano by music department chair June Choi Oh, followed by a performance by Dominican’s gifted LINES Ballet/BFA in Dance students.

President Marcy, academic leaders and faculty members hosted a reception on the Meadowlands Hall lawn following Convocation.
