Student-athlete team wins inaugural Penguin Tank prize

An energetic and enthusiastic team of students representing the Penguin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PSACC) won $1,000 in prize money during Dominican’s inaugural Penguin Tank competition in support of their plan to bring the Team IMPACT program to Dominican.

Team IMPACT is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and/or life-threatening illnesses by connecting them with college sports teams. The prize money will go toward programming for Dominican’s Team IMPACT child, planning Draft Day and other special events where the child is treated like a star athlete.

Six student teams competed in the Penguin Tank for funds generously sponsored by the Women, Leadership and Philanthropy Council of Dominican University (WLPC). Each team presented a 90-second pitch to a panel of WLPC judges before a capacity crowd in Dominican’s Garden Room in Edgehill Mansion on October 18.

In addition to PSAAC, student groups entering the Penguin Tank included Associated Students of Dominican University of California (ASDU), the Barowsky Students’ Association, Rotaract Club, and Siena Leadership Team.

The second prize of $500 went to ASDU’s project Real Talk and the third prize of $250 went to the Rotaract Club’s Candy and Card Drive project.

WLPC members screened the applications and served as judges in the Tank. The group appreciates the wonderful, creative ideas coming from Dominican’s student clubs and looks forward to continuing its support of them in future events.
