Spring author series welcomes One Book One Marin selection

Prize-winning author Daniel Alarcón, named in 2010 by The New Yorker as one of the best 20 writers in America under the age of 40, spoke at Dominican University of California on May19, at the Institute for Leadership Studies’ Spring Author Series, presented in partnership with Book Passage.

Alarcón appeared on the Angelico Hall stage in conversation with Michael Krasny, host of KQED's  “Forum." They discussed Alarcón’s book, At Night We Walk in Circles, the 2015 One Book One Marin selection.

The event was free and open to the public.

Alarcón is the author of War by Candlelight, a finalist for the 2005 Pen-Hemingway Award and the 2009 International Literature Prize-winning Lost City Radio, named Best Novel of the Year by the Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle.

The speaker series, a cooperative effort between Dominican’s Institute for Leadership Studies (ILS) and Book Passage, features many of the country's leading figures from the worlds of business, politics, entertainment, academia, and literature. The series has entertained and educated thousands of Marin County and San Francisco Bay Area residents.

All events are open to the public. Free parking is available on campus in the nearby Conlan Center parking lot at the intersection of Acacia and Grand Avenues.

The Institute for Leadership Studies’ 2015 Spring Author Series is sponsored by Private Ocean, the oldest and largest privately-held wealth management firm in Marin County. Private Ocean’s commitment to community service has been a driving force behind its support of the lecture series, now in its 12th year.

The One Book One Marin program is funded by the Marin County Free Library, Book Passage, and the ILS at Dominican as well as city libraries and a large number of community sponsors.
