Chronicle taps Poli Scientist for Clinton commentary

The San Francisco Chronicle reached out to Alison Howard, chair of the Department of Political Science and International Studies, for insight on Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s recent appearance before a Silicon Valley women’s conference.

In the story, Howard, who also is an assistant professor in the Dept. of Political Science and International Studies, and other political experts note the appearance will underscore Clinton’s appeal to women in Silicon Valley.

Says Howard: “This group of women know how hard it is to break into an industry, to be in the world of business, especially to be in tech and the venture capital world ... where you’ve seen how few women there are.”

She adds that Clinton’s address will allow “that gathering of influential people, who will talk to their circle of friends” to get out the message: “If you want to have a woman president, it’s going to take some work — even for Hillary Clinton.”
