Record fall enrollment reported as Dominican begins classes for 2010-11 academic year

Dominican University of California today welcomed a record freshmen class of 343 to campus, marking an impressive 18 percent increase from the same time last fall. Of those 343 students, 181 are of minority descent.

Dominican also received 105 new transfer students, up 46 percent from 72 new transfers the same time last school year, and added 62 new Pathways program students, an increase of 63 percent from last fall.

The incoming class boosted Dominican’s Fall 2010 total enrollment to 2,194 -- another record --  up from 1,930 last year year-to-date.

Named for the seventh year in a row by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top universities in the West, Dominican will host a California Governor’s debate between Democratic candidate Jerry Brown and Republican candidate Meg Whitman on October 12. The event, to be televised statewide by NBC,  will be held at Angelico Hall and moderated by NBC News’ Tom Brokaw.
