Nursing major doubling as professional recording artist releases new single

With the same passion, care, and commitment she is showing as a nursing major, Jessica Barron ’19 is launching a professional singing career.

This month Jessica released her second single – “Troubled” through her record label, Tambora Records International LLC, based in Scottsdale. Ariz. It follows her debut song – “No Puedo” – which last year caught her Dominican classmates by surprise.

“Nobody really knew about it until the end of last semester,” Jessica says. “Once we all started becoming friends in the nursing department, everyone was saying it was like a Hannah Montana life. Everyone has been super supportive and excited about it.”

Jessica is putting just as much focus into her nursing career as she is with her music as a recording artist.

“I always felt a natural pull to care for others. Nursing is a calling for me to do that.”

Dr. Margaret Fink, professor and IEN coordinator in the Department of Nursing, was instrumental in mentoring Jessica.

“Clinicals have hit the nail on the head for me,” Jessica says. “This is what I want to do and I love it.”

Jessica aims to be a family nurse practitioner, like her aunt. She also wants to see where her singing career may take her. In December of 2015, “just for fun,” Jessica created Jessica Barron Music on Instagram and posted covers to connect with music lovers. Tambora Records saw her covers and contacted her directly on Instagram about a month later, believing Jessica has the potential to connect her multicultural influenced music to college students and young adults.

With two singles released on digital platforms, such as iTunes, Spotify, YouTubeRed, Amazon, and Google Play, Jessica is working on a third single, which includes a music video. She also recently auditioned for a talent variety show on network television. She has found a nice balance of music and nursing in her life.

“I love nursing and I love music and I want to do both so I’m kind of going with the flow right now,” Jessica says. “I definitely want to finish my nursing career though. My record label has been very accommodating with my schedule as a nursing student.  I couldn’t have asked for a better label to work with.”
