Pianist Gustavo Romero returns for Guest Concert Series at Dominican

Internationally-renowned pianist Gustavo Romero performed in the Guest Concert Series at Dominican University of California on November 6.

The Sunday concerts, sponsored by Dominican’s Department of Music, Dance, and Performing Arts, start at 3 p.m. in Angelico Concert Hall. Free parking is available in the nearby Conlan Center lot off Grand Avenue in San Rafael.

Romero returned to Dominican where he made his Guest Concert Series debut in 2013. A native of San Diego with heritage in Guadalajara, Mexico, Romero made his orchestral debut at the age of 13 with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta.  He went on to win the prestigious Avery Fisher Young Artist Career Grant in 1983 and the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1989. He has appeared around the world as a soloist with leading orchestras and as a solo/chamber recitalist.

At Dominican, Romero’s piano recital featured Schumann’s Arabeske, Op. 18, Schumann’s Sonata No. 3, Op. 14 “Concerto without Orchestra,” Lavista’s Simurg (1980), Dutilleux’s Blackbird, and Chopin’s Nocturne in B Major, Op. 62, No. 1.

All Guest Concert Series concerts are free to students under the age of 18 including middle school and elementary school children if accompanied and supervised by an adult.  In addition, community college students with a valid I.D. and music and art teachers in grades K-12 will be admitted free of charge along with Dominican students, faculty, and staff with a valid I.D.

Subscription season tickets for the Guest Concert Series are $60 for general admission, $51 for seniors over 60. Single-event tickets, which are only available at the door 30 minutes prior to scheduled performances, are $20 for general admission and $17 for seniors over 60.
