General Colin Powell talks with BSB students

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell talked with Barowsky School of Business (BSB) students Thursday evening, sharing invaluable insight into leadership and service.

General Powell is one of a group of high-profile leaders who has served as a guest lecturer in the MBA course module titled “CEO of the Field – Coaching Your Business to Success,” led by mother-son duo Dr. Beth Seidenberg and Sammy Vogel-Seidenberg.

The video call with General Powell also was attended by both undergraduate business students and MBA students in the Barowsky School of Business.

“These opportunities for students to engage with innovators and thought-leaders is one of the ways that our business school is building the next generation of capable leaders driven by a deep sense of values and purpose,” said Dr. Sam Beldona, Dean of the BSB. “This is an extension of the Dominican experience that inspires personal growth in students, helps them identify their strengths and ignites their passions.”

Colin Powell is a United States statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army. He was the 65th United States Secretary of State serving under President George W. Bush. He was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton and he served as National Security Advisor under President Ronald Reagan.

Dr. Seidenberg is a General Partner at Kleiner Perkins. Sammy Vogel-Seidenberg is the Head Coach of the men’s lacrosse team at Dominican. Along with BSB Professors Jacob Massoud and Tommy Cavanagh, Dr. Seidenberg and Coach Vogel-Seidenberg are helping MBA students develop into effective leaders in organizations by building teams with an edge.

Following his talk, General Powell engaged in a Q&A session for students along with Dr. Seidenberg and Coach Vogel-Seidenberg who joined him.
