Former U.S. Poet Laureate Collins speaks in leadership lecture series

Former U.S. Poet Laureate and bestselling author Billy Collins spoke in the Institute for Leadership Studies’ Fall Leadership Lecture Series in partnership with Book Passage at Dominican on October 10.

Collins, dubbed “America’s favorite poet” by The Wall Street Journal, recited poetry to President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at a White House event in 2011. He returned to Dominican with his 12th collection of poetry offering nearly 50 new poems entitled, The Rain in Portugal.

The speaker series, a cooperative effort between Dominican’s Institute for Leadership Studies and Book Passage, features some of the country's leading figures from the worlds of business, politics, entertainment, academia, and literature. The series has entertained and educated thousands of Marin County and San Francisco Bay Area residents.

All events are open to the public. Free parking is available on campus in the nearby Conlan Center parking lot at the intersection of Acacia and Grand Avenues in San Rafael.

The 2016-2017 Leadership Lecture Series is presented by Private Ocean, the oldest and largest privately-held wealth management firm in Marin County. Private Ocean’s commitment to community service has been a driving force behind its support of the lecture series. Bank of Marin is the Gold Level sponsor. Redwood Credit Union is the Silver Level sponsor.
