Dominican hosts public panel discussion on immigration, DACA

Dominican hosted a panel discussion on immigration and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) on Monday, January 30, before a standing-room-only capacity crowd in Guzman Lecture Hall as part of the University’s “Conversations on Race and Immigration” programming.

Dominican has partnered with Canal Alliance to examine the personal, legal, and economic impacts of DACA.

The event was moderated by Dominican’s Dr. Hanna Rodriguez-Farrar, Vice President for Public Affairs and University Relations. Panelists included Dr. Mara Perez, Founder of Latino Futures; Lucia Martel-Dow, Canal Alliance Director of Immigration Legal Services; and Ana Tafolla, Canal Alliance Family Resource Specialist.

Univision Noticias TV 14 reported on the event during its 11 p.m. newscast.

Following the discussion featured the premiere of the “Get the Picture” music video, along with a conversation with Andre Pessis and others involved in the performance and production of the song and music video.

Dominican’s “Conversations on Race and Immigration” programming, funded by a grant from Cal Humanities, is part of the University’s Democracy and Equity Initiative. The Associated Students of Dominican University of California (ASDU) promoted the panel discussion as part of its “Immigration Week” programming.
