Dominican hosts LeaderShape Bay Area Consortium

Approximately 50 students from Dominican, UC Berkeley, UC Merced, Fresno State, University of San Francisco, Cal State Monterey Bay, Holy Names University, Menlo College and College of Marin participated in the annual LeaderShape Institute Bay Area Consortium on the Dominican campus June 1-6.

The six-day conference, hosted for the seventh year by the Institute for Leadership Studies in Dominican's Barowsky School of Business, featured group leadership building panels, discussions, and exercises. The weeklong program culminated with a Learning Community Commencement ceremony on Saturday morning, June 6, in the Creekside Room.

LeaderShape Institute is an advanced on-campus residential, ethics-based leadership development experience for young adults. It is an interactive, energizing, and unique experience that builds leadership skills.

The LeaderShape Institute’s hands-on, multi-dimensional curriculum is presented by trained facilitators. While each of them has experience working with young adults, they are all highly respected in their professions and serve as excellent leadership role models for the students.

Dominican students selected to attend included Danielle O'Reilly, Kylie Timmerman, Jacqueline Germaine-Bewley, Lilieta Fe'ao, Jennessica Holliday, Kiersti, Saenz, Lawrence Yu, Ingrid Mendizabal and Elsie Lopez.

Amiya Powell-Hodge, a 2011 graduate of Dominican, LeaderShape graduate and On-Site Coordinator, who recently earned her Master's Degree in higher education at USF, served as one of five Cluster Facilitators.  Adam Santiago and Sayra Soriano served as On-Site Coordinators with Alice Cochran. Cochran, an adjunct instructor in the Barowsky School of Business, is the LeaderShape Institute program director at Dominican. She is the Director of Student Leadership Development in Dominican’s Institute for Leadership Studies.

This year the Institute was supported by gifts from The Fenwick Foundation, Women in Leadership and Philanthropy, Associated Students of Dominican University and Wells Fargo Bank.
