PSAAC organizes Make-A-Wish Foundation reveal

Dominican University of California hosted a Make-A-Wish reveal on September 18 at the Conlan Center. Dominican Athletics' Penguin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PSAAC) organized the event, which saw Alessio, a young boy from Tiburon with cerebral palsy, granted his wish to head to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii.

More than 500 people, including nearly 200 student-athletes from Dominican athletics, arrived early and lined up to celebrate Alessio. When he arrived on campus, he was greeted with Mickey Mouse ears and a Mickey Mouse doll and whisked away on a golf cart, where he was paraded through the line of cheering student-athletes. Inside the Conlan Center, he was welcomed to chants of his name. Bay Area Hula performed three routines, then the crowd headed to the swimming pool, where a pair of mermaids presented Alessio with a giant plane ticket to Hawai'i and a room key to Aulani. Food was provided by Rocco's Pizza while Dominican's Jazz Ensemble from the Department of Music, Dance, and Performing Arts played poolside.

Dominican Athletics received the 2014-15 PacWest Conference Make-A-Wish Award for its fundraising efforts, by which fulfillment of this wish was made possible. NCAA Division II has a long-standing relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
