Denise Lucy joins Marin General Hospital Board of Directors

The Marin General Hospital Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Denise Lucy, Founder and Executive Director of Dominican University of California’s Institute for Leadership Studies (ILS) and Professor of Business & Organizational Studies, as a new member of the hospital board.

Dr. Lucy has 36 years’ experience in higher education as an educator and executive at both Dominican University and the University of San Francisco (USF).  At Dominican, Dr. Lucy has served as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Liberal and Professional Studies, and Associate Dean of Dominican College. At USF’s College of Professional Studies, Dr. Lucy served as Associate Dean and as Director of Marketing and Corporate Development.

Dr. Lucy teaches leadership and team development, organizational change, negotiation and conflict management, business communications, and business and society in Dominican’s Barowsky School of Business. Her research interests include leading small business export enterprises, leadership development, business education, micro-finance poverty reduction, and civic engagement.

Dominican University of California awarded her the Joseph R. Fink Faculty Achievement Award in 2016, the Outstanding Service Award in the Barowsky School of Business in 2015, the Business Professor of the Year award in 2014, the Sr. Aquinas Nimitz Distinguished Service Award in 2011, and the Presidential Medallion in 2002.

Dr. Lucy was inducted into the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011. She is also a recipient of the 2016-17 Excellence in Education Award from the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce and the Magnificent Woman of Marin Award. The University of San Francisco awarded her the Edward Griffin Award for Outstanding Service in Education and well as its Merit Award. Dr. Lucy has served as Chair and a member of the board of Marin Education Fund, now called 10,000 Degrees, where she rejoined the Trustee Board in 2017.

Dr. Lucy earned her doctorate in Organizations and Leadership and a graduate certificate in Educational Computing and from the University of San Francisco. She earned her M.S. from California State University, Fresno and her B.S. degree from Michigan State University.
