Bay Area Earthquake: A message from President Marcy

Dear Dominican Community,

Northern California experienced a 6.1 magnitude earthquake early on the morning of August 24.  The epicenter, near Napa, California, was about 40 miles from campus.  Dominican’s crisis team acted immediately to check the safety of students and facilities.  No one on campus was injured, and we did not experience a loss of power.  We will continue to conduct thorough structural evaluations to ensure our buildings are safe.

Some of you may live closer to the epicenter and be experiencing more severe problems, or be concerned about travel to and from campus.  Please know that we are here to support the entire Dominican community.  Classes began as scheduled August 25, and our Student Life team is always available to work with families on an individual basis if you need to adjust your personal plans due to the earthquake.

For assistance, please contact Loralie Young, Director of Housing, at 415-485-3277, The number for Campus Security is 415-269-6070. Here is the link to our Emergency Preparedness Guide:

Our thoughts and our support are with the people of Napa and the surrounding areas.

Mary B. Marcy
