Applicants accepted to be a Delegate at College Debate 2016

As a voter education partner of the Commission on Presidential Debates, Dominican University of California is leading a national initiative to use social media and technology to engage students in the 2016 presidential debates and election, focusing on the issues, not the candidates.

The culminating event for College Debate 2016 will be the 2016 College Convention, to be held on the Dominican campus in September. #CollegeDebate16.

Students from colleges and universities across the United States applied to serve as College Debate 2016 delegates by following this link. Delegates were notified April 15.

The Delegates will gather at Dominican, located just north of San Francisco, on June 1-3 to collaborate and network with students representing colleges and universities from around the country. Through seminars and workshops, the Delegates will prepare to return to their home campuses in Summer/Fall 2016 to engage voters and promote involvement in the election process. TurboVote, Brigade, Generation Citizen, Voispot, and others will lead training sessions on social media engagement.

Delegates will return to Dominican in September for the 2016 College Convention. This event will provide a forum for focused discussion on national issues, with Faculty Fellows serving as moderators. A 90-minute moderated Town Hall meeting will be streamed live to watch gatherings at the delegates’ home campuses across the country. Peers will engage virtually to weigh in and contribute to the national dialogue. The final product of the evening will be a memo to the moderators of the Presidential Debates that will suggest the key issues the College Delegates want the candidates to address.
