Amy Tan, Stewart Wallace to Discuss "The Bonesetter's Daughter"

Author Amy Tan and composer Stewart Wallace will discuss the making of the opera "The Bonesetter's Daughter" on Sunday, September 21 at 7 p.m. in Dominican's Angelico Hall.

Set in modern-day San Francisco and China's countryside, the opera is an adaptation of Amy Tan's best-selling novel of the same title in which a troubled Chinese-American woman uncovers the tortured secrets of her mother's past through an encounter with her grandmother's ghost.

The opera has been commissioned by San Francisco Opera and is being performed September 13 through October 3 at San Francisco's War Memorial Opera House.

Amy Tan and Stewart Wallace will be joined by Ken Smith, author of the new book Fate! Luck! Chance! Amy Tan, Stewart Wallace and the Making of The Bonesetter's Daughter Opera.

The Dominican event,  free and open to the public, is presented by the University in association with Book Passage.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Free parking is available in the lot at the intersection of Grand and Acacia avenues.
