Karen has more than thirty years of professional experience, applying practical research, solutions-driven technologies, and informing science and practical-based policies for safeguarding diverse agronomic and horticultural crops from the introduction and/or containment of invasive pests and diseases. Karen’s experience and contributions have spanned academic, extension, and industry communities, including 20 years as Production Manager and GM for Hines Wholesale Nurseries in northern CA. Her leadership is widely recognized in the nursery industry trade in state, federal, and international regulatory policy development and oversight.  

Karen is currently the program manager and PI for the National Ornamental Research Site at Dominican, a federally-funded research facility focused on quarantined soil-borne plant pathogens.
