Ava Carl

Dominican University seal

Director of Operations, Budget and Administrative Manager

School of Liberal Arts and Education

Ava has had a lifelong fascination in Norse mythology with an eye towards the queer, eco-critical, and pre-colonial aspects — elements the 19th and 20th centuries would rather have forgotten. After studying folklore at The Ohio State University and the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, she pursued an M.A./Ph.D. program in the Scandinavian Department at UC Berkeley. She taught (and sometimes designed) courses there for four years, and decided to take on an administrative role at a university that cares deeply for students instead of beginning a dissertation. Ava continues to appreciate Dominican’s dedication to its students, and she could not be more excited to work for the faculty and students in the School of Liberal Arts and Education.
