Currently, Lauro Vazquez is a MFA candidate in poetry at the University of Notre Dame's creative writing program.

He is interested in poetry that is written with the conviction that in our times—times of economic and environmental crisis, in these reactionary times—the writing of a political poem can be an active and subversive agent for change, that when faith is not lacking and imagination is placed under the service of a people’s revolutionary will, poetry can be one of the many components that can help bring about a more egalitarian society.

He is assistant editor and contributor at Letras Latinas--the literary program at Notre Dame's institute for Latino Studies and maintains a regular blog at granmaforpoetry

He lives in South Bend, Indiana where he teaches a weekly poetry workshop at South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility.
