How to Set up Google Gmail 2-Step Verification

In your Gmail, click your Profile Picture or your email address in the upper right-hand corner; and then click Account.

On the Account Settings page, scroll down to Signing In and click 2-Step Verification.

On the 2-Step Verification page, Click the Start setup button.

On the next page, Re-Sign in with your Gmail account credentials.

On the Set up your Phone page, add the phone number that you want the Verification codes sent to. You can have the code sent as a text or as voice phone call. Click Send Code to test and verify.

Check your phone for the Verification code. On the Verify your Phone page, enter the Verification code you received on your phone and click Verify.

On the Turn on Two-Step Verification page, click Confirm.

2-Step Verification is now turned on.

 

Next, you will add backup phone numbers and print backup codes to carry,  for when you don't have access to your phone.

 

If prompted to "Reconnect your apps," skip Reconnect. (You may have to click the left-arrow at the top of the page to return to your Account Settings page. Return to the 2-Step Verification section and add Backup numbers).  

Add a backup phone number or two.

Print Backup codes, and carry them with you.

You can access your account settings at any time, to change settings or add backup phones or print backup codes,  by clicking your Profile Picture or your email address in the upper right-hand corner, and then clicking Account.

 

After you set up 2-step Verification - accessing your Gmail

On Windows or Mac Computers

Access your Gmail and Calendar using your Web browser. This is the supported method. Apple Mail, Apple Calendar, and Outlook are not supported and will not work properly.

On your iPhone, iPad, or Android

Access your Gmail and Calendar using Google's Gmail App and Google's Calendar App instead of Apple's Mail App and Apple's Calendar App, which are not supported and will not work properly.
