New Laptop Labs & Charging Stations*

Picture of Laptop LabFor fall 2019, ITS and Facilities partnered to create two new innovative learning spaces in Alemany Library. These remodelled classrooms provide increased WiFi, rearrangeable furniture, Apple TVs, charging stations and more. The spaces support active learning, and are in use this fall for the Computer Science Minor courses and others.

Okta Single Sign-On*

Not only will Okta provide secure Single Sign-On (SSO), but it will also power a one-stop location to access all your Dominican online services from a single dashboard. As more Dominican services move to the cloud, Okta will connect you to them all. Stay tuned throughout 2020 for more Okta features.

New: WiFi Printing in Alemany Library*

New in Alemany Library: print over WiFi from your laptop or mobile device.

WiFi Expansion & Improvements*

We are currently surveying all students and employees for feedback as well as auditing the service levels of WiFi across campus. We will be expanding WiFi service throughout the 2019/2010 academic year, focusing on those areas that are in highest demand. Many Dominican WiFi users are bringing multiple devices with them to campus, and our needs for expanded service area coverage continue to grow.

In Development: Share Laptop/Mobile Displays over WiFi*

New WiFi DisplaysCurrently, over ten of our smart classrooms are equipped with Apple TVs, which allow Apple device users to share their screens to a projector or flat panel display. We now also have a demonstration unit called a Solstice Pod which supports screen casting not only Apple devices, but also Windows laptops and Android devices. We will be expanding the Solstice pods across conference rooms and smart classrooms throughout 2019/2020 and beyond.

In Development: Digital Signage*

The same technology that will power sharing laptop & mobile displays in the classroom will also be used to support digital signage across campus. We hope to deploy digital signage solutions later this year, timed to coincide with the launch of the new university website.

Coming Soon: New Online Support Desk*

ITS is evaluating two potential online support desk systems and will select one finalist to provide an online platform for support services. The new system will let you submit and keep track of tickets online, provide feedback on service, and include searchable FAQ pages, all in one interface.

Data Center Upgrades

Data CenterIn addition to expanding the services available at our co-located data center at Sonic (pictured right), we have also been busy constructing a new data center on the Dominican campus. Our new on-premise facility is nearing completion and uses state-of-the-art and self-contained Mini Computer Racks (MCRs) to house the services that need to be located directly on campus.
