Technical Requirements

You must have Javascript and Cookies enabled in your browser.  The following web browsers have been confirmed to work for Online Registration:

  • Internet Explorer 7+
  • Firefox 3+
  • Safari 4+

If you can't register online due to technical problems, call IT at 415-257-0123. Click here for general IT office information. (If you have general online registration questions, call the Registrar's Office at 415-458-3750.) If your computer is having problems with the online registration process you can either:

  1. Try a different computer (A lab computer on campus, or the kiosk in the Registrar's office)
  2. Print out your advising email that lists the courses you have been advised to take and bring it to the Registrar's Office during business hours [click here for general Registrar's Office information].

The "Both Secure and Non Secure PopUp Warning"

Problem: When browsing Self Service with Internet Explorer, you get a popup that says "This page contains both secure and non secure items".

Solution: Either use Firefox or Safari instead of Internet Explorer. Or:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on Tools
  3. Click on Internet Options
  4. Click on the Security Tab
  5. Click on the Custom Level button
  6. Under the Miscellaneous section look for "Display Mixed Content"
  7. Click on Enable for Display Mixed Content instead of Prompt.
    * If you are concerned about security on other webpages, you can set this to Disable instead. Certain icons will not display in Self Service if you choose "Disable".
  8. Click on OK twice
  9. Close Internet Explorer and reopen
  10. Open the webpage that was displaying the warning message, the message should not appear now.

"ADD" Button Hidden Under Mini-Cart

If you are using Internet Explorer and have a smaller monitor, you might find that the "mini cart" on the right side of the screen covers up the "ADD" buttons for courses. To fix this, either use Firefox or Safari instead of Internet Explorer (preferred), or you will need to adjust your monitor resolution. To adjust your monitor resolution on a PC, right click your PC's desktop and click "Properties", then "Settings" and move the "Screen Resolution" slider toward "More". This will allow your browser window to show more of the page.

Troubleshooting & Getting Help

  1. If you are experiencing technical problems registering for courses online, read the "Technical Requirements" documentation above.
  2. If you have General Online Registration questions, either:

call the Registrar's Office at 415-458-3750 to speak with someone directly or print out your advising email that lists the courses you have been advised to take and bring it to the Registrar's Office

  3. If your advisor cannot use the online advising session Form for some reason, have them write down your advised courses and make a copy.
