Newsweek Magazine is looking for senior level students, and above, with some journalism experience for a 13 week paid internship in New York.  Deadline for 2012 Summer program is fall of 2011.  Visit Newsweek's website for more information.

Project Vote Smart National Internship

PVS wants students interested in helping American “vote smarter” by teaching citizens about elected officials and potential candidates. Applications accepted year round for a ten-week program. Learn more about the Project Vote Smart Internship program.

The Washington Internship Institute

The Washington Internship Institute offers internships in think tanks/policy groups, embassies, congressional offices, various agencies and Washington D.C. area businesses. Learn more about the Washington Internship Institute.

Embassy and Diplomatic Scholars Internships 

Potential interns should be interested in international relations, international business and foreign languages. Possible internships include positions with the Department of State, various embassies, and international non-profit organizations.

Governing Magazine

For those students interested in learning more about publishing, journalism, political science and public administration, the Governing Magazine internships offers positions in Washington D.C. and the chance to take part in influencing state and local government officials. GW Semester in Washington

Sponsored by the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management, GW Semester in Washington “offers undergraduates a fresh, behind the scenes look at politics and government.” Internships opportunities are available on Capitol Hill, in the White House, at associations or lobbying firms, public interest organizations, public opinion research organizations, media consulting firms or news organizations.” Learn about GW Semester in Washington for deadlines and requirements.

The Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political Science and Economic Systems

Live in Washington D.C. while interning with organizations involved in political, economic, or international affairs and gain practical experience for pursuing future careers. Learn more about the application process. 

The Capital Semester

This opportunity is for students interested in U.S. politics and American government, who wish to gain experience and potential career options. Spend 15 weeks in D.C. and earn 12 transferable credits at Georgetown University.  Find out more.

The Washington Center

Offered are internships that include academic course work as well as personalized programs. Intern with America’s Leaders Program, the Congressional Leadership Program, the Environment/Energy Program, The International Affairs Program, the Law and Criminal Justice Program, and the Nonprofit Leaders Internship Program. Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program

Program offers a ten-week summer internship at a free-market public policy organization. Sponsored by the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University. Learn more about this Summer Fellow Program.

World Affairs Council Schools Program

The World Affairs Council offers a variety of different programs for undergraduate students, including, but not limited to, unpaid internships with the Summer Institute on International Affairs.  Deadline for application is May 8, 2011 for the summer of 2011. Public Policy Institute of California
