Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta is the international English honor society and a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. It was founded in 1925 at Dakota Wesleyan University. There are over 700 chapters of the society in Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. One of the most recent, the Alpha Omicron Rho chapter, was chartered to Dominican University of California on November 26, 2007.


Sigma Thau Delta

The purposes of the society are to confer distinction for high achievement in English and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies; to promote interest in literature on local campuses and their surrounding communities; and to foster the discipline of English in all its aspects, including creative and critical writing.

In order to be invited to join Sigma Tau Delta at Dominican, a student must:

  • Be a declared English or English with a Writing Emphasis major
  • Have junior or senior class status (have earned a least 60 units)
  • Have completed at least 6 units of upper division English courses at Dominican
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.5 in the English or English with a Writing Emphasis major.


Faculty holding a degree in English may also join, and Professors Joan Baranow, Mojgan Behmand, Carlos Rodriguez, and Judy Halebsky have chosen to become members.
