 Dominican celebrated Commencement  2017 on Saturday, May 13, conferring  degrees on more than 500 students, including 378 undergraduates and 139  graduates. The Communication and Media Studies department boasts 14 graduates this year.

Bright Potential in the Communication and Media Studies Department

Melissa Stoakley CMS Communication and Media Studies Class of 2017Melissa Stoakley, CMS, class of 2017, in just her first two years here at Dominican, has secured two internships in the field of communications, one at Zumado Public Relations in San Rafael and the other with the USL soccer team Sacramento Republic FC. Thus far she has upheld a 3.94 GPA, has been inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society, and was recently selected as a finalist for consideration in receiving a SF Public Relations Roundtable Scholarship. Stoakley has been able to accomplish all this while playing on the women’s soccer team and adhering to the demanding schedule of a student-athlete. Chair of the department Brad Van Alstyne says, “Melissa’s talents will transcend well beyond the classroom and I have no doubt that she will encounter success in her career.”


African Student's Quest Has Hollywood Beginning, Ending


Yema Khalif Manyanki grew up just outside Nairobi in Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa. Today, thanks to a life-changing encounter with a Hollywood actress, he’s preparing to graduate from Dominican with a degree in communication and media studies and has big plans for his future. Read More.
