Message From the Dean

Welcome to the School of Liberal Arts and Education (LAE) at Dominican University of California where we foster a deep commitment to the welfare of our global community and a life-long love of learning while preparing our students for personal and professional success.

Laura Stivers 2017

Our school offers fourteen diverse undergraduate majors as well as three graduate degrees and a teacher preparation program. Within every one of these programs, students work closely with our outstanding, award-winning professors in small classes where every student’s voice counts.  Highly committed to student mentorship and guided by Dominican’s core values of study, service, community, and reflection, our faculty set the standard on Dominican’s campus for engaged learning, as well as for leading local and international educational and service opportunities.

Humanistic education fosters moral discernment and civic engagement — things we vitally need at this moment in history. LAE graduates excel in this arena and are well-equipped for today’s global job market. Surveys of Fortune 500 companies and major employers in the U.S. suggest that professional success requires organic, cross-disciplinary skills: critical thinking and the ability to capture an idea concisely and articulate it well to others, as well as flexibility and adaptability. All of these are hallmarks of an LAE graduate.

Whatever major (Art, Art History, Communications, Dance, Design, Education, History, Humanities and Intercultural Studies, International Studies, Literature, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Religion) or graduate degree (MS Education, MA Humanities, MFA Creative Writing) you decide to pursue, we will work closely with you to personalize your education and help you meet your long-term goals as we together strive to create a more peaceful and just world.
