MA Humanities Current Course Offerings



Graduate seminars meet one evening per week for two hours, allowing flexibility for those with daytime responsibilities. Students who wish to pursue a track that culminates in the completion of a project follow a 30-unit track. Those who opt not to complete a project are on a 33-unit track. Graduate Liberal Studies Associations


Students in the Master of Arts in Humanities program have the opportunity to deliver papers at the annual conference of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP) and the Graduate Liberal Studies Joint Symposium (GLS). Students are invited to submit their papers to the conference journals, Confluence: The Journal of Graduate Liberal Studies and Western Tributaries.

Graduate Humanities Alumni Association

GHAA Open Mic Night

Dominican's Graduate Humanities Alumni Association (GHAA) brings together alumni, faculty, staff and friends to celebrate a common interest in the field of humanities. Alumni members coordinate special events and host guest speakers from Dominican and the local humanities community. Graduates of the Master of Arts in Humanities are invited to join the association as a way to stay informed on current topics and to network with peers and mentors. Alumni leadership opportunities are available as well.

Dickens Universe

Dickens Universe Program in Santa Cruz, CaliforniaDickens Universe is a unique opportunity to participate in a week-long, intensive summer study of a Dickens novel and related issues of Victorian history and culture. The “universe” is held at in Santa Cruz during the first week of August and run by the Dickens Project Consortium. Faculty, undergraduates, graduate students, high school teachers, high school students, and community members from all over the world gather together for convivial lectures, workshops, discussions, and social gatherings (from Victorian dance to a hike through the redwoods). Dominican students can register for Dickens Universe through Global Education Office and receive 3.0 units of either undergraduate or graduate study.

Sigma Tau Delta

MA Humanities students with concentrations in literature or creative writing are invited to join Alpha Omicron Rho, the Dominican chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society. Students in their second semester are eligible with a B+ average in coursework. Founded in 1925, Sigma Tau Delta is part of the of the Association of College Honor Societies. There are over 880 chapters of the society in the U.S. and abroad. The Alpha Omicron Rho chapter was chartered to Dominican University of California on November 26, 2007.

Members of Sigma Tau Delta gain access to national and international events and activities, enjoy networking with colleagues and alumni members, and can take on leadership opportunities within the organization. Graduates are recognized at culminating ceremonies with an honor cord, pin, and the distinction of membership in an honor society. Sigma Tau Delta also confers a limited number of scholarships.
