Graduate Liberal Studies Associations

Students in the Master of Arts in Humanities program have the opportunity to deliver papers at the annual conference of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP) and the Graduate Liberal Studies Joint Symposium (GLS). Students are invited to submit their papers to the conference journals, Confluence: The Journal of Graduate Liberal Studies and Western Tributaries.

Academic Conferences

AGLSP Conference

Dominican University of California is a member institution of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP). AGLSP is a professional organization of over 80 member institutions providing graduate interdisciplinary education in the liberal arts and sciences.  The Association provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among the administrators of programs granting degrees that are interdisciplinary in nature and adhere to the values of liberal arts education. Students in our Master of Arts in Humanities program are encouraged to attend the AGLSP annual conference, where students, faculty, alumni, and program administrators have an opportunity to present papers, attend panel discussions, and hear guest speakers with significant scholarly expertise in the field of humanities.

GLS Joint Symposium

In 2007 the Graduate Humanities program at Dominican, along with colleagues at Stanford University, held the first GLS Joint Symposium.  The symposium invites graduate liberal studies students, alumni, and staff from western schools for a weekend of paper presentations and intellectual discussion.  Since its inception, the GLS Joint Symposium has grown to include nine other west coast institutions, including Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Its broad scope includes scholarly essays and creative work such as short stories, poetry, creative nonfiction, and visual art."  In 2016, Dominican Graduate Humanities students won both annual Confluence journal awards.

Western Tributaries

Students participating in the GLS Joint Symposium are invited to submit to Western Tributaries, an "annual refereed journal intended to showcase graduate student research, writing, and creative work presented at the annual Graduate Liberal Studies (GLS) Joint Symposium."
