The multiple subject credential program is a Preliminary Elementary and Middle school teacher preparation program in Northern California authorizes you to teach all subjects required of the public school curriculum for a self-contained classroom. This is a teaching credential for preschool through grade 12. However, this 48-unit program is primarily designed for individuals interested in teaching at the elementary and middle school levels through grade six. Within 2 or 4 semesters you can get a Masters of Science in Education degree as well as a preliminary multiple subject teacher in this teacher preparation program. In accordance with State requirements, the Preliminary Elementary and Middle School teacher credential allows you to seek initial employment as a multiple subject elementary school teacher, but does not authorize ongoing teaching service. Within five years of your date of issuance of your preliminary elementary and middle school teacher credential, you will need to complete professional preparation in order to continue ongoing teaching service as a middle school or elementary school teacher. To complete the Professional (Clear) Credential, you will be required to enroll in a commission-approved SB 2042 Professional Teacher Induction Program, which can be completed while teaching.
