Kelly Newhouse joined the faculty at Dominican after 15 years of clinical practice in orthopedic surgery as Senior Physician Assistant at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. She received her undergraduate degree with honors in biological sciences from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, and her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Practice from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois.

In addition, Ms. Newhouse received special recognition in orthopedics with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) from the NCCPA and is one of the first Physician Assistants in the state of California to receive her fluoroscopy training and licensure. She has a special interest in sports medicine, including evaluation and surgical care of knee and shoulder conditions. Ms. Newhouse’s initial experience as a Physician Assistant was as the sole surgical PA in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She transitioned into orthopedics after a return to her home state of California. As one of the first Physician Assistants in orthopedics at KPSF, she was able to be part of the development and growth of the department utilization of PAs in the clinical and hospital setting.

Ms. Newhouse was a part time member of the clinical faculty team at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California as an Assistant Clinical Coordinator. Prior to this, she participated in the Clinical Skills Laboratory class and guest lectured in orthopedics. 
Ms. Newhouse is a member of the California Academy of Physician Assistants and the San Francisco Bay Area Physician Assistants.

For seven years, she was involved in Unfolding Adventures for Women, a Bay Area non-profit organization that leads female-focused hikes and overnight trips in order to boost confidence, spirituality, and resilience. With a special interest in outdoor experiences, she obtained her Advanced Wilderness Life Support Certification in 2015 from the Wilderness Medical Society. When she is out of the office, Ms. Newhouse enjoys backpacking, rock climbing, and camping with her family.
