Janis Davis, Ph.D. OTR/L

Janis DavisDr. Davis is a master teacher dedicated to student-centered learning and innovative teaching. She earned her occupational therapy degree of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. She earned a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a PhD in Education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction, from the University of Kansas.

Dr. Davis specializes in mental health and has worked as an occupational therapist in private psychiatric hospitals. While still living in the Midwest, Dr. Davis was also a child therapist for Psychological First Aid, a program headed by an emergency room physician at a children’s hospital which intervened with children who had witnessed violence. Dr. Davis teaches the psychosocial content of the curriculum, an area that is foundational to all occupational therapy treatment. She loves teaching and mentoring students in therapeutic use of self and professional writing.

She has authored several peer reviewed articles and a book chapter on anxiety, and presented her research nationally and internationally (Curriculum Vitae). Her research interests focus primarily on listening in healthcare. In the summer of 2010, Dr. Davis was chosen to accompany of group of teachers and staff from Dominican Universities in the United States to Fanjeaux, France to learn about the history of  St. Dominic and the Dominican Sisters. Her hobbies include reading, sailing, photography, and travel.
