How it Works
Community-based projects are embedded in several of our undergraduate courses and designed to serve both community organizations and local businesses. The following are examples:
- In Public History, you will gain grounding knowledge in public history methodology and theory, while also providing practical experience conducting client-based research. Past projects include public histories of Marin County Civic Center, National Park Service: Marin Headlands, and Angel Island Immigration Station.
- In Digital Storytelling classes, you will work with non-profit organizations to create digital content representing the organization’s mission and history.
- In Research Methods classes, you will explore issues impacting underserved communities in Marin County. You will delve into social justice research to produce media and a year-long content plan for organizations.
- The Leadership Practicum offers leadership and management experience working in teams to complete projects for clients from businesses and community organizations. Projects have included environmental scanning, marketing, and operational coordination, event planning and execution, canvassing customer and client interests, social change campaigns, business plans, and budgeting.
