Violist Vinocour caps Guest Concert Series April 22

Jonathan Vinocour, Principal Violist of the San Francisco Symphony since 2009, will perform at Dominican University of California in Angelico Hall for the first time on April 22 to close out the 2011-12 Guest Concert Series.

Jonathan VinocourThe Sunday concerts, part of the Expression series sponsored by the Department of Music, Dance and Performing Arts at Dominican, start at 3 p.m. at Angelico Hall on the Dominican campus. Free parking is available in the nearby Conlan Center lot off Grand Avenue in San Rafael.

This season, students under the age of 18 are admitted free if accompanied and supervised by an adult.  In addition, community college students with a valid I.D. and music teachers in grades K-12 will be admitted free of charge along with Dominican faculty, staff and students with a valid I.D.

Dominican alumni, celebrating Reunion Weekend 2012, also will be admitted free.

Single-event tickets, which are only available at the door 30 minutes prior to scheduled performances, are $18 for general admission and $15 for seniors over 60.

Regarded as one of the most exciting and thoughtful violists of his generation, the 32-year-old Vinocour previously has served as Principal Violist for the St. Louis Symphony and guest Principal of the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig. He has been featured as a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony and St. Louis Symphony and appeared in world’s leading music festivals, including Marlboro, Ravinia, Aspen and Tanglewood.

Vinocour on April 22 will be accompanied by pianist June Choi Oh, the artistic director of the Guest Concert Series. He will follow four other reputed performers to the Angelico Hall stage this season.

The 2011-12 Guest Concert Series opened with a piano recital by Oh on October 9 then five-time Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco performed on November 13.

Viola Nanci Severance joined fellow San Francisco symphony members Dan Carlson and Peter Wyrick at Angelico Hall for a Super Bowl Sunday concert on February 5.

Violinist Wei He, viola Yun Jie Liu and cellist Amos Yang – together known as the Bridge Chamber Virtuosi – performed on March 18.

In its 11th season of providing Marin County and the Bay Area with a unique opportunity to enjoy classical music, the Guest Concert Series is led by June Choi Oh and Craig Singleton, chair of the Department of Music, Dance and Performing Arts at Dominican.
