Bridge Chamber Virtuosi performs at Angelico Hall

Violinist Wei He, viola Yun Jie Liu and cellist Amos Yang – together known as the Bridge Chamber Virtuosi – performed March 18 in the 2011-12 Guest Concert Series at Dominican University of California.

The Sunday concerts, part of the Expression series sponsored by the Department of Music, Dance and Performing Arts at Dominican, start at 3 p.m. at Angelico Hall on the Dominican campus. Free parking is available in the nearby Conlan Center lot off Grand Avenue in San Rafael.

This season, students under the age of 18 will be admitted free if accompanied and supervised by an adult.  In addition, community college students with a valid I.D. and music teachers in grades K-12 will be admitted free of charge along with Dominican faculty, staff and students with a valid I.D.

|Subscription season tickets for the Guest Concert Series are $72 for general admission, $60 for seniors over 60. Single-event tickets, which are only available at the door 30 minutes prior to scheduled performances, are $18 for general admission and $15 for seniors over 60.

The Bridge Chambers Virtuosi juxtaposes Western classical music and contemporary Asian music to present a cross-cultural, synergetic concert experience. Individually heralded for their prowess and acumen on their respective instruments, all three performers in BCV are faculty members at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Liu is the Associate Principal Violist and Amos Yang is the Assistant Principal Cellist of the San Francisco Symphony.

BCV has received commissioned pieces from various composers from Shanghai Conservatory of Music as well as serving as the foundation of a multi-media project, “Shanghai Trilogy” by Chinese-American composer, Joan Huang. BCV has collaborated with California Palace of Legion of Honor and Asian Art Museum for special programmed performances.

In June, 2010, BCV represented the City of San Francisco in performances at World Expo in Shanghai as part of the 30-year San Francisco/Shanghai sister-city celebration.  Its members are active as soloists and chamber musicians with performances at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Aspen Festival, Wigmore Hall and major concert halls in Asia. As individual artists, they have been trained at the Juilliard School, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the USC Thornton School of Music, the Eastman School of Music, and the San Francisco Conservatory.  Awards include top prizes at the Lionel Tertis, Pierre Fournier, American String Teacher’s Association, Carmel Chamber Music and Yellow Spring Chamber Music Competitions.

BVC followed three other reputed performers to the Angelico Hall stage. The 2011-12 Guest Concert Series opened with a piano recital by June Choi Oh on October 9 then five-time Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco performed on November 13.

Viola Nanci Severance joined fellow San Francisco symphony members Dan Carlson and Peter Wyrick at Angelico Hall for a Super Bowl Sunday concert on February 5.

On April 22, 32-year-old Jonathan Vinocour, regarded as one of the most exciting and thoughtful violinists of his generation, will perform at Angelico Hall for the first time and close out the 2011-12 Guest Concert Series.

In its 11th season of providing Marin County and the Bay Area with a unique opportunity to enjoy classical music, the Guest Concert Series is led by June Choi Oh, who is artistic director, and Craig Singleton, chair of the Department of Music, Dance and Performing Arts at Dominican.
