Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm not receiving emails from ncur21. What should I do?

A: You can find out if your abstract was accepted, and find out what steps to take to solve email problems here: http://www.dominican.edu/query/ncur/school_list.php.

Q: How can I find out which abstracts were accepted for each school?

A: A list of accepted abstracts by school is available at http://www.dominican.edu/query/ncur/school_list.php.

Q: What is the cost to attend NCUR 21?

A: If you are a student and you register before February 16, 2007, the registration fee is $145. After the February 16th Early Bird Deadline, the fee will be $185 for students. Registration fees for faculty are $175 through February 16, 2007 and $215 after that date.  Online registration closes on Monday, March 12.  After that you can register on site at the conference - on site student registration will be $225 and on site faculty registration will be $255.

Q: What are the Presentation Format Guidelines?

A: Detailed presentation guidelines are available here.

Q: How do I receive a Presenter Identification Number (PIN) if I am a co-presenter?

A: If you are a group or co-presenter, your PIN was emailed to the primary presenter or the person who submitted your abstract - as well as the faculty advisor - upon notification of acceptance. You should contact that person, or the NCUR® 2007 office, to obtain your PIN. Note that there is one PIN per accepted abstract, and that PIN applies to all presenters of a given abstract.

Q: If I am a co-presenter and someone else has submitted the abstract, do I still need to register for NCUR® 21?

A: Yes. All presenters and co-presenters must register for NCUR® 2007 in order to attend and present.

Q: May faculty advisors and mentors present with their student advisees at NCUR®?

A: No. NCUR® is a presentation opportunity for undergraduate research students only. The only avenue for faculty presentation at NCUR® is through the Faculty Administrator Network (FAN) sessions. More information on applying to present a FAN session will be posted.

Q: May parents attend their student's presentation? If so, do they need to register for the conference?

A: As a general rule, all persons wishing to attend the conference must register and pay for participation. We will make an exception to this rule for parents who wish to attend their son or daughter's presentation. Parents may send their names and the name of their participating child to ncur21@dominican.edu. We will provide a Visitor pass that allows them to attend the one session where their child is presenting. This pass is not valid for lunches, dinner, speakers or tours. These activities are limited to paid conference participants. Parents can pick up their Visitor pass at the registration tables during registration hours.

Q: Can I mail or fax in my abstract?

A: No. All abstracts must be submitted using the online abstract submission form. To maintain consistency, streamline the process and help preserve our natural resources, we require that all abstracts be submitted using this process. If your abstract contains special characters that cannot be typed into the form, you may inclue a link to a web version of your abstract. Please see the online form and instructions for more information.

Q: Can a student or faculty member submit more than one abstract for consideration for presentation?

A: Yes. It is perfectly fine to submit more than one abstract for consideration. A separate acceptance or rejection notification will be sent for each abstract submitted.

Q: Can I request a specific presentation date and time?

A: While we will attempt to accommodate special requests, we cannot guarantee it. Special requests must only be made if only necessary. Email the NCUR® 21 office at ncur21@dominican.edu by February 15, 2007. We encourage participants to attend all three days of the conference as it is an excellent opportunity to see, hear and support fellow researchers and their presentations.

Q: Do I make hotel reservations through the NCUR® website?

A: No. NCUR® 21 has secured room blocks and special rates at local hotels as a convenience to our attendees. When online registration opens, a list of all participating hotels, rates and contact information will be posted online. NCUR® is not involved in the hotel reservations process. Each participant or school is responsible for securing their own hotel reservations.

If you are participating through your school's Undergraduate Research department, please contact them to coordinate your reservations. In many cases, the department will make reservations for the entire delegation.

If you are responsible for making your own hotel reservations, you must contact the hotel directly and, in most cases, provide a credit card guarantee for your room. Be sure to mention NCUR® 21 to receive the preferred conference rate.

NCUR® has secured room blocks at many different hotels which have varying guest policies. You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with and abide by the policies for your hotel of choice.

Q: Are meals provided at the conference?

A: The conference registration fee includes three box lunches as well as access to hospitality tables throughout the conference that will serve coffee, water, doughnuts, etc. Tickets to the Friday evening dinner event must be purchased for a cost of $25 per ticket. Please select the dinner option when you register for the conference. There will be limited seating for this event and tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
