Home Again and Busy As Ever!

Elizabeth - Friday, June 27 2008 - I’m home from both my trips and had an amazing time on both of them! Europe was a blast and I would love to go back soon! London, Paris and Rome were all really interesting cities, and it was so much fun to see all the famous sights that I’d only seen pictures of before. We rode double-decker busses, went to the top of the Eiffel Tower, visited the Louvre, took a cruise down the River Seine and went to Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Europe, here we come!

Elizabeth - Thursday, May 21, 2008 - School has been out for about a week now, and after moving back home I have most of my stuff put away! Moving out can be a bit of a pain...especially when you realize how everything seems to multiply during the school year! Maybe it was all those trips to Target... This summer, I’m going to miss everyone at DU so much, but am looking forward to both my trips!

Winter Break - Service in Appalachia

Elizabeth - Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - Over winter break, 6 DU students traveled to Vanceburg, Kentucky to volunteer with the Glenmary Home Missioners for a week. We stayed at the Glenmary Farm and volunteered with a variety of sites in the Lewis County area. Lewis County is an extremely poor area of our country. The unemployment rate is almost 20 percent and nearly 38 percent of residents live below the poverty level. In Lewis County, 50 percent of infants to preschool age children live under the poverty line and 11.5 percent of the mothers are 10 to 19 years of age.
