About the Library
As of June 2007, Archbishop Alemany Library houses about 100,000 volumes, subscribes to 375 journals and newspapers in print, and provides online access to over 30,000 journals and ebooks through subscription databases and open access archives. The Library is open over 80 hours a week during the fall and spring semesters. Reference services provide assistance in library research and reference librarians are available seven days a week during the regular school term. Spacious surroundings include a fireplace, study areas, and the San Marco Art Gallery with rotating exhibits. Patrons from the community are welcome to use the library. |
Archbishop Alemany Library at Dominican University of California, named
in honor of Joseph Sadoc Alemany, first Archbishop of San Francisco,
opened its doors to the college community on April 17, 1963. Designed
by Howard Friedman and Henry Schubart in collaboration with Sister
Marguerite, the college librarian at the time, it was one of seven
libraries to be awarded for architectural excellence in the 1964
American Institute of Architects Library Building Awards Program.
